Wiltshire is home to a wide range of military bases and associated research establishments, offering a range of opportunities for research and investment.
The presence of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Wiltshire creates many opportunities for local businesses. With the advent of the ‘Super Garrison’ in Tidworth and a new defence training centre at RAF Lyneham, there will be significant investment in infrastructure and increases in the numbers of soldiers based in the county.
The Military Civilian Integration Programme (MCIP) aims to optimise the economic and social benefits of the military presence in the county, and it comprises representatives from the military community, the business community and Wilshire Council.
Key organisations linked with the defence sector in Wiltshire include Avon Rubber, which designs, tests and manufactures specialist respiratory protection and defence products and SciSys, which designs, builds and supports software systems for the defence and space sectors.
Other major defence-related organisations are Chemring Countermeasures, the world’s leader in protecting air and naval platforms and the acclaimed Help for Heroes, a charity that offers support for wounded servicemen and women.
