Chippenham-based IT services provider SciSys has secured a €3.3m (£2.8m) contract with Airbus to supply equipment for the MERLIN climate mission.
The agreement covers the payload operations centre (PLOC) for the MERLIN (Methane Remote Sensing LIDAR Mission) satellite’s LIDAR instrument. This contract is part of the French-German MERLIN climate mission.
SciSys is contributing hardware and software elements, as well as central functions of the Payload Operations Centre, to the MERLIN mission.
The contract is valued at €3.3m and covers the period from the end of 2016 until the planned launch of the MERLIN satellite in April 2021.
Klaus Heidrich, chief executive of SciSys, said: “I am delighted with the continued involvement of SCISYS, through its space division, in the MERLIN programme. SCISYS is recognised as a long-term partner to Airbus and the German Space Agency (DLR), and I am very pleased to strengthen our role as a valuable partner of the German national space programme.
“This is another great achievement for SCISYS and its space division, and further supports the group’s positive outlook.”
