Avon Rubber has snapped up the business and assets of Poole-headquartered VR Technology.

The Melksham-based design and engineering company said VR’s products and technologies would enhance its current and planned product ranges as well as increasing respiratory protection opportunities, in particular with navies across the world.

VR Technology, which also has a base in Wisconsin in the US, was founded in 1998 and employs about 25 members of staff.

Avon Rubber has also announced the acquisition of a site in Picayune, Mississippi, for its subsidiary Avon Engineering Fabrications ahead of the expiry of the lease of its existing premises in September 2013.

A total of £3m has been paid for both the purchase of VR Technology and the Mississippi site.

Avon Rubber, which reported turnover of £106.6m and pre-tax profit of £11m for the year to 30 September 2012, is set to report its interim results next month.
