Four more restaurant chains are nearing the end of talks over moving to the Odeon cinema site at St Stephen’s Place in Trowbridge.
Work on the site is on schedule for the October 2013 opening and as the development takes shape Tim Russell, senior asset manager at landowner Legal & General Property said he expected one more restaurant to be confirmed in the next few weeks with the final three early next year.
He said: “We are talking to Pizza Express, Wagamama, Los Iguanas, Frankie and Benny’s, Harvester and Zizi. One of them is almost done, I’ll be able to announce them in the next two, three or four weeks.”
Around a third of the site now has its concrete base down, while the last few days have seen the first steel frames of the cinema itself begin to rise.
The 40ft high steel skeleton of the first section, which will be screen six of the completed seven-screen cinema, is now in place and the others are expected to follow quickly behind.
“It’s amazing how quickly it goes up. We have four guys working with the cherry pickers and the crane and it goes together like Meccano, it’s very fast, very efficient and they are doing a great job,” said Mr Russell.
The construction team from Bristol firm Leadbitter has been on site for 132 days today and site manager Lee Milne said it had been a straightforward project so far.
“The only issue has been the weather,” he said. “We planned to have all the footings in over the summer when we thought the weather would be best, but that has been an issue. We have caught up though.”
Mr Russell expects to hand over the completed cinema to Odeon by next May and the six restaurants to their prospective tenants by August.
“It is all coming together well,” he said.
